Розробка уроку на тему "Ukraine"
для 6 класу

The topic of the lesson: Ukraine is our native country.
The aims: -    to repeat the learnt vocabulary;
-      to revise the information pupils have learnt about Ukraine;
-      to recollect some facts about our country by doing different tasks: making up sentences and monologues, writing pass-letters;
-      to practice listening, speaking, reading, writing;
-      to foster love for Ukraine, our Motherland.
Materials and visual aids: magic box (CARD 1), sentences (CARD 2), text about Ukraine (CARD 3),  sentences for listening (CARD 4),  presentation on computer, pupils’ pictures about Ukraine, sheets of paper.

THE PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON

I. The beginning of the lesson.
1. Greeting.
T: Good morning, children! Glad to see you.
2. Guessing the topic of the lesson and warm up.
T: We have a magic box with English letters. Let’s find some known words. The words are across and down. (CARD 1) Then write them down on the blackboard and circle the initial letters of these words. Make up words from these letters.
Ps: Ukraine
T: So the topic of the lesson is Ukraine. Today we shall revise the information we have learnt about Ukraine.
II. The main part of the lesson.
1. Vocabulary review.
A) Mind Map
T: Name and write down the words connected with the topic “Ukraine”.

T: Continue the sentences, using the words written before. (CARD 2)
2. Homework check. Open ended statements.
T: Let’s check homework. Now you will represent pictures about Ukraine and tell us about our country beginning with the words: One thing that I want to say about Ukraine is …
Ps: One thing that I want to say about Ukraine is it is one of the largest countries in Europe.
3. Adjective introduction.
T: So, let’s summarize. Describe Ukraine using only adjectives. Who will be the last?
Ps: Ukraine is large, rich, beautiful …
4. Relaxation.
T: Now we’ll have a rest. Stand up and do some exercises, please.
Show Ukrainian mountains. They are high … higher… the highest (hands up high … higher… the highest).
Show Ukrainian rivers. They are long … longer… the longest (hands aside wide … wider … the widest).
Ukrainian boys and girls are fast … faster … the fastest (pupils run quickly).
They are merry… merrier … the merriest (pupils smile each other).
5. Reading.
A) Reading Activity.
T: Now, pupils, you will read the text about Ukraine (CARD 3) and revise some information about our country.
B) Post-reading activity.
T: Choose the right answers to the following questions according to the text (presentation on the computer).
6. Listening.
T: Listen to the sentences and guess what it is about (sentences about Ukraine) (CARD 4).
7. Work in pairs.
T: The task is to make a sentence with the last word of the previous one.
P1: I live in Ukraine.                  P2: Ukraine is a rich country.                  P3: The country is large. …
8. Writing. Work in groups. Pass – a letter.
T: The class is divided in two groups. The task is to write a letter about Ukraine to a pen-friend in the USA. Every pupil in both groups has two minutes for writing and then passes the letter to another pupil in his group to continue writing.

III. The conclusion of the lesson.
1. Summarizing up.
T:  I see you know much about your native country and I want to ask to do the following:
Love you dear Motherland,
Love it with your whole heart,
Love Ukraine when the days are happy,
Love when the days are dark,
Cherish your mother tongue,
Cherish your family root,
Never stop thinking of your parents
And make their life good.
2. Evaluating and giving home task.
T: Today you’ve worked rather well and shown a good knowledge of the topic. I’ pleased with you. Your marks are …
At home you’ll write a letter about Ukraine. See you later. Good-bye.

CARD 3

UKRAINE
  Ukraine is situated in Eastern Europe. The territory of Ukraine is 603700 square kilometers. Ukraine borders on Russia, Belarus, Poland, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. It is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and has very important ports. 5 percent Ukraine’s territory is mountainous. Ukraine has the Carpathians and the Crimean Mountains. They are covered with mixed forests. There are the thickest forests in Volyn.
  There are many rivers in Ukraine. They are The Dnipro, The Bug, The Dniester,
The Desna and others. The longest river of Ukraine is The Dnipro.
  The population of our country is about 46 million people. Besides Ukrainians there are more than 100 nations and nationalities there.
  The biggest cities of Ukraine are Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lviv, Donetsk, Odesa and others.
  Ukraine is an industrial country. It is rich in iron, coal, natural gas, oil, salt and other mineral resources.
   The national language is Ukrainian. The national emblem is the Trident.
The national flag is Blue and Yellow. The national anthem is «Ще не вмерла Україна».
